Lifelines & Self-Retracting Lifelines for Work at Height

Lifelines connect workers wearing fall protection harnesses to anchor points, limiting fall distance and arresting falls before the worker strikes a lower level. Our lifeline selection includes self-retracting lifelines (SRLs), vertical rope lifelines, and horizontal lifeline systems certified to ANSI Z359 standards. SRLs automatically retract slack and lock within inches of a fall event, minimizing fall distance and reducing the risk of swing falls.

Pair lifelines with full-body harnesses, anchor connectors, and shock-absorbing lanyards for a complete fall protection system. Browse our full harnesses and lifelines and climbing and fall protection collections for all certified fall protection components available from CSP Forestry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a self-retracting lifeline?

A self-retracting lifeline (SRL) automatically retracts its cable or webbing as the worker moves, maintaining minimal slack. In a fall, the internal braking mechanism engages within inches, limiting fall distance compared to a standard shock-absorbing lanyard used in fall protection systems.

What length lifeline do I need?

Lifeline length depends on working height and distance from anchor. SRLs range from 6 to 130 feet. Always calculate total fall clearance — the distance needed to arrest a fall plus swing fall potential — before selecting lifeline length for your fall protection setup.

Do lifelines require inspection?

Yes. Lifelines must be inspected before each use and annually by a competent person. Any lifeline involved in a fall arrest event must be removed from service immediately regardless of apparent condition, per OSHA and ANSI fall protection requirements.
