Hard Hat FAQs
What is the difference between Type I and Type II hard hats?
Type I hard hats protect only the top of the head from impact. Type II hard hats provide top and lateral (side) impact protection, reducing injury from blows to the side of the head. Type II is recommended for most construction, forestry, and industrial environments where workers may be struck from the side. Browse both types in our hard hats collection.
How long does a hard hat last?
Most manufacturers recommend replacing the hard hat shell every 2–5 years from the manufacture date (printed inside the shell) and replacing the suspension system annually. Replace immediately after any impact, if the shell is cracked or dented, or if the suspension is damaged. Exposure to UV, chemicals, and heat accelerates degradation.
Can I attach accessories like earmuffs and face shields to a hard hat?
Yes. Most hard hats include slotted brims or accessory rails compatible with clip-on earmuffs and face shield attachments. Always verify that accessories are compatible with your specific hard hat brand and model before purchasing. For an all-in-one solution in logging, our logger's helmets include integrated face shield and earmuffs.
What hard hat class do I need for electrical work?
Class E (electrical) hard hats are rated to 20,000 volts and are required for work near high-voltage lines. Class G (general) hard hats are rated to 2,200 volts for limited electrical exposure. Class C hard hats are not electrically rated and should never be used where electrical hazards exist. Find the right class in our hard hats collection.
