Flame Resistant Clothing

NFPA-Certified Flame Resistant Clothing for Arc Flash & Flash Fire Hazards

CSP Forestry stocks a comprehensive range of flame resistant (FR) clothing designed to protect workers from arc flash, flash fire, and weld spatter exposure. Our FR workwear collection includes FR shirts, FR pants, FR coveralls, FR jackets, and FR outerwear meeting NFPA 70E (electrical work), NFPA 2112 (flash fire), and ASTM F1506 standards. Available in both inherently FR fabrics (Nomex, Kevlar blends) and treated FR cotton/modacrylic for different comfort and protection requirements. We stock leading brands including Carhartt FR, Ariat FR, Bulwark, and National Safety Apparel.

FR clothing does not make the wearer fireproof—it is designed to resist ignition, self-extinguish when the flame source is removed, and not melt onto skin, dramatically reducing burn severity. Proper FR garment selection requires understanding the arc flash or flash fire hazard category for your work environment. Pair FR clothing with heat-resistant gloves, safety glasses, and appropriate head protection for complete protection. Browse our coveralls and safety clothing collections for related workwear options. See our full safety and PPE catalog for complete hazard protection solutions.

Flame Resistant Clothing FAQs

What is the difference between NFPA 70E and NFPA 2112?

NFPA 70E covers electrical safety in the workplace and specifies FR clothing requirements for arc flash hazards—primarily for electrical workers. NFPA 2112 covers FR garments for protection against flash fire—relevant for oil and gas, petrochemical, and utility workers. Both standards require FR clothing to self-extinguish, not melt, and limit body burn percentage. Browse our FR clothing collection for garments certified to each standard.

Can I wash flame resistant clothing in a regular washing machine?

Yes, most FR clothing can be machine washed, but follow the manufacturer's care label closely. Avoid chlorine bleach, fabric softeners, and starch—these chemicals can compromise FR performance. Wash with mild detergent in warm water. Inherently FR fabrics (like Nomex) retain their protection indefinitely with proper care; treated FR fabrics may lose some protection after repeated washing.

What HRC or PPE category FR clothing do I need?

NFPA 70E PPE Categories 1–4 specify minimum arc ratings (cal/cm²) for garments required at different arc flash energy levels. Category 1 requires a minimum arc rating of 4 cal/cm²; Category 4 requires 40 cal/cm². A qualified electrical engineer or safety professional should perform an arc flash hazard analysis to determine the correct PPE category for your specific work tasks. Browse our FR clothing for arc ratings on every product.

Is FR clothing required for oil and gas workers?

Yes. OSHA regulations and industry standards (API RP 2003, NFPA 2112) require FR clothing for workers in oil and gas operations where flash fire hazards exist—including drilling, well servicing, pipeline operations, and refinery work. CSP Forestry stocks FR workwear and FR coveralls appropriate for oil and gas field use.
