Please Note: This axe is the most popular of all the Gransfors Bruks axes. Unfortunately, we are currently on serious backorder at this time as are many other US dealers due to the popularity of these axes. There are only 25 smiths in Sweden handcrafting all of the axes for 30 countries. It will possibly be at least 1-2 months before we have sufficient stock to fill your order.

The Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe 420 is the same size as the Hunter's Axe but a more traditional pattern and poll. The blade on the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe 420 is thin and the handle is long enough to allow powerful chopping but not too long so it will fit into a rucksack, the back of a car or a boat. The Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe 420 is practical for splitting small sticks for fires or cutting small diameter limb wood for starter fuel in a fireplace. The Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe 420 features a 19" Hickory handle, a 3.25" face and has a 1 1/2 pound head. The Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe 420 comes with a grain leather sheath.
Old traditions are adapted to today's demand. Most of the handles of Gransfors Bruks axes have a unique ergonomic design which gives a steady grip around the handle. All Gransfors Bruks handles are made of selected high quality (prima) American hickory. Fiberglass handles are stronger than hickory handles but Gransfors Bruks believes that wooden handles are more ecological. Gransfors Bruks axe handles are soaked in hot linseed oil and dripped dry. They are then covered with beeswax to help keep the dirt off.
Gransfors Axes are forged by very professional smiths. The proof of this professionalism is that they are able to forge axes with such precision that no supplementary work, to hide mistakes in the forging, is needed.
At Gransfors Bruks, the forging craft is allowed to take its time. The smiths do not work by the piece. They take care and do the right forging from the beginning. There is no need to stone or grind or smooth or paint the axes in order to hide or eliminate imperfections in the forging.
A smith at Gransfors Bruks has nothing to hide and he is proud of his professional standards. When he is satisfied with his work and has accepted his axe, he marks the head with his initials beside the company's crown label.
In 1990 Gransfors Bruks' Axes were awarded a prize in "Ecological Design" from The Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in cooperation with The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design. In 1995 Gransfors Bruks received another award from The Swedish Society of Crafts and Design for the "Hunter's Axe".

I finally received my axe after an expected wait. Wasn’t too too long, about half a year haha. To be expected. I also purchased mine before they all jumped in price. I love the axe, if you aren’t aware of the quality of these axes look it up and read about them. Heirloom quality tools that will take years of use with proper upkeep. I’m glad I made the purchase when I did. The quality is there for sure. No regrets. CSP is a legit distributor and they always answered my emails and got me my axe when promised. Thanks again. Will do business in the future when get the Scandinavian forest axe.

Great axe, great service, worth the few (6ish?) months wait. CSP made the transaction easy. Mine has the wooden wedge but does not have the metal wedge. I have many extra metal wedges, and can install one if it becomes an issue. Thanks CSP.

Axe was wicked sharp out of the box. Forearm hair should grow back soon though. The head fit on the handle was flawless. The grain on the handle was perfectly oriented. I did have to take a little 0000 steel wool to the handle but no big deal for how well this axe was forged. My axe smith was MF.

After 9 months of waiting for this infamous axe I received the package that was below average packing for amount of money they charge. The axe maker initials are not part of the axe makers gransfors bruks advertised...the handle had some inconsistencies and more importantly the metal wedge is missing...extremely disappointed with all the hype I read and heard for this axe. Had to sand the handle to smooth the surface then coated with linseed oil. Now I am looking to get the metal wedge to enforce the axe head from flying off the handle...!

I couldnt have asked for friendlier and proactive service. I bought this axe while it was backordered, and the worth was worth it. The staff made me feel patient and at ease. Highly recommend this company!

Placed my order and received email back very quick and shipped the very next day. Received in two days and was wrapped up nicely. The axe has very good grain orientation and is shaving sharp out of the box. I put four more coats of boiled linseed oil on the handle and burnished it with 0000 Xtra fine steel wool. Oiled the head and coated the sheath and it's ready to go.

Great product quality. It is going to last me a long time. I was immediately sent an email that these were on backorder, and within the next 24 hours they got more in and shipped them super fast and very well packed!

I have read and watch tons of reviews on this axe and it's everything everyone said. I like the handle how it came with just an oiled finish. I didn't have to scrape wax or varnish off and it's shape is pretty great. It came shaving sharp but I know I can make it better with a polished and stropped edge and I'm looking forward to that. I plan to use it camping. It performs wood processing very well. Great product and CSP's customer service was a good experience. I had originally back ordered the axe and it came in when they said it would. I waited a little over three weeks for it to come in.
